The SAP is deeply saddened to hear of the death of Brenda Almond, Emeritus Professor of Moral and Social Philosophy at the University of Hull. Professor Almond co-founded the SAP with Anthony O’Hear in 1982. She devoted many years to the development of the Society, helping it to become the leading body in the field of applied philosophy. Professor Almond and O’Hear also co-founded the Journal of Applied Philosophy in 1984, and Professor Almond jointly edited the Journal until 2001. Professor Almond wrote widely on topics in applied ethics, particularly on the ethics of family life and reproductive technologies and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Utrecht in 1998. The SAP extends its sincere condolences to Professor Almond’s family, friends and colleagues.
